I'm currently working towards my BA in Photographic and Electronic Media at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen. Over the last year I've explored themes in sexuality and LGBT, which continues to an important aspect in my work. Moreover I want to promote and embrace sex positivity. A movement that I fully support. I beleive in equality and free love, and wish to show and elevate this through artistic expression. I am also interested in exploring themes of control; limitation and the intricate nature of human interaction.
parallel to this my work has covered a variety of forms including, photography, film, sculpture, the writing word, performance and video mapping. Often individual works are multi-layered, as well as being fragmented within a piece. I find working across a collection of mediums, gives me complete artistic control and freedom, as well as a wider span of experience and skills.
Through my work, I want to take down the wall between artist and audience and confront themes that are uncomfortable, that could be considered even grotesquely beautiful. I want to create art which means something real and I want to use this hyper-realistic art to change myself and to change other people.
In April of this year, I was the student artist in residence at the Scottish Scultpure Workshops. I have been recently awarded a second residency with Limousine Bull in Aberdeen. The residency will run from September 2011 to June 2012, where I will work with a collective of other artists working in Animation.
To follow the progress on that and other work, my blog is frequently updated. |
